How Can I get more jobs?
Licensed Substitute Teachers - GO CLASSIFIED!
A Licensed Substitute Teacher can increase jobs by adding "classified" positions to the Absence Management formerly AESOP Profile account. Classified Licensed is an Educational Assistant. This is a lower rate of pay, however, it will increase your chances of getting jobs and gaining exposure, especially if new to school districts. Once added to your Absence Management formerly AESOP profile, the system will call you regardless of the type of absence that needs to be filled whether Licensed or Classified. Absence Management formerly AESOP will NOT prioritize Licensed before Classified, it calls on an "as needed" basis.
Get a Business Card
A business card can be helpful to make introductions and reinforce name recognition. At a minimum include your name, contact information with phone and email address, your educational credentials (licensing and endorsements) or type of positions you are willing work (Certified or Educational Assistant). Include your Absence Management formerly Aesop ID Request number. Leave the business card with the school office, the person you are substituting for, and other professionals and paraprofessionals with whom you have positive interactions throughout your sub day.
Become a PREFERRED Substitute
Get on the Preferred List!! The Absence Management formerly AESOP system allows employees and schools to have a Preference List of substitutes to fill an absence. If no one on that Preferred list is available, then Absence Management formerly AESOP will go to the General Skill List of substitutes to call. Increase your chances of being called by becoming a “Preferred Substitute".
Add More School Districts to Your Absence Management formerly Aesop Profile
Review the available districts near you on the District Map (above). Add districts adjacent to the ones already in your Absence Management formerly AESOP profile to expand the number of jobs available.
Sub in Special Education
A Special Education Endorsement on your Teaching license is NOT necessary to work in a special education classroom setting. ALL DISTRICTS have special ed classrooms within their schools and are always looking for available substitute teachers AND educational assistants.
Look for Food Service and Custodial Jobs
Consider increasing your availability for Food Service and Custodial positions.
Food service workers in the state of Oregon require a Food Handlers card. Let the CTA Sub Help Desk know if you have this or when you have acquired one.
Please note: Custodial positions involve lifting heavy items at times and cleaning of all areas in a school. Custodial positions are also often in the afternoon/evening.
