I am a licensed teacher, how do I become a substitute?
Apply for current licensed positions. Oregon law states you must have a valid and current Oregon teaching license to register as a substitute teacher. Contact Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with licensing questions.
I want to work in education, but am not a licensed teacher
Various classified positions are available including educational and library assistants, custodians, food service, secretarial and transportation.

I have a teaching license from another state, are my teaching credentials valid in Oregon?
No, you must have a Oregon teaching license to substitute in Oregon. If your license is from out of state, please contact Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. You can also choose to apply as a classified substitute.
Do I need to apply at each school district?
Your application will be directed to school districts selected on your application. Some school districts may require additional paperwork.
I am interested in becoming a substitute teacher and have a bachelor's degree but not a teaching degree, what are my next steps?
